This is my final project for the "Life is Advertising" project, entitled "Purpose" and is by Becca Kang. It is 22" x 17" (white space included) and consists of vector shapes created in Illustrator and text. As I struggled to complete this project, I wanted to create an ad that reflected my style and spoke about the deeper reasons behind me pursuing a design career in advertising. I pieced myself together using flat shapes and a bright color scheme, typical of what I usually use. My face and hair are abstract and cropped very closely. I want it to be somewhat obscure because at this point, I'm a graduating senior who is still unsure where life is going to take me. I also want to create this idea that I'm not clearly defined and it relates to the text: I just want to make an impact. No matter what I do end up doing, I want to make sure I'm doing something with my work that makes a positive impact on the world. I haven't defined exactly how, where, or when I want to do this.
I did try to create a "superhero comic" like feel with the abstract shapes and the cartoony face. I wanted this effect because, as cheesy as this is, I wanted to present myself as a modern day superhero. In a way, I want to be an inspiration to people in some way. I want to have made an impact on people's lives in a positive way. I don't want it for the glory of myself, but to know that I am doing good for someone out there. I used Futura for the type. I wanted a simple sans-serif that would reflect a strong stroke. The statement is also meant to be very simple, yet a decisive phrase. I also wanted this to be like a slogan for me, as a brand. I don't have a logo for myself because I didn't feel like it was necessary. In my case, me as a person doesn't matter -- it's the impact that I will make that will be what is important.
