NM My Life in Ad Final

School of Rocks
by Norma Macias
Materials: InDesign & Illustrator

As previously mentioned I work at as a tutor at San Miguel Back of the Yards. I have been working there since freshman year here at DePaul. I've made many connections with students at this school. Since it is a private catholic school they solely rely on donations; students don't pay tuition, instead they receive scholarships for their tuition since most if not all students come from households with low income. Due to this I have had to see certain changes occur at our school. This year our grad support coordinator was let go because they lacked the funds pay her. Our sister school San Miguel Gary Comer will be closing at the end of this school year due to low demand and lack of funds. Due to these hardships I wanted to create a poster for one of our best fundraising events, School of Rock. Last year I participated in this event which was quiet fun and we raised a lot of money. Therefore for this project I wanted to create a School of Rocks poster for this year (all information is completely made up). For this poster I wanted to demonstrate this rock aesthetic that still portrayed a student/kid vibe. For obvious reasons I chose to draw out a guitar with the paint tool so it looks doodled on the page. The header type is also similar to that of a doodle. I also chose U2 since they are a world renounced band and can obviously attract an audience. I chose to differentiate their name since most of their poster like to use bold sans serif type. Then of course at the bottom there is all the basic information for people who are interested in the event to read.
